Frequently asked questions about Check-Ins🐾
Here are some of the most common questions we receive about our pet sitting services. If there’s anything else you’d like to know, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
What is a pet sitting check-in?
A pet sitting check-in is a scheduled visit to your home where we provide care for your pets while you’re away. During these visits, we can provide feeding, fresh water, medication administration if needed, potty breaks, litter box cleaning, and playtime or companionship depending on your pet’s needs.
What’s the difference between pet sitting check-ins and overnight care?
Pet sitting check-ins are scheduled visits throughout the day where we stop by your home to provide care for your pets. During these visits, we handle things like feeding, fresh water, potty breaks, medication administration, litter box cleaning, and playtime depending on your pet’s needs. Each visit lasts for the amount of time you book (15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes), and many clients schedule multiple visits per day while they are away.
Overnight care, on the other hand, includes staying in your home with your pets for the evening or an extended 24-hour period. This service provides more continuous supervision, companionship, and routine care, making it ideal for pets who experience separation anxiety, require frequent attention, or simply do better when someone is present overnight.
What’s the difference between pet sitting check-ins and dog walks?
Pet sitting check-ins focus on in-home care for your pets. During these visits, we provide feeding, fresh water, medication administration, litter box maintenance, playtime, and companionship. Brief walks for potty and outdoor time are also included depending on the length of the check-in.
Dog walks, by contrast, are dedicated outdoor exercise sessions. These visits are specifically designed for exercise, enrichment, and outdoor time, ranging from 15 to 60 minutes. If your pet needs a full walk for energy and exercise rather than just a quick potty break, we recommend scheduling a dog walking service in addition to any check-ins.
How long are check-in visits?
We offer 15, 30, 45, and 60-minute check-ins so pet parents can choose the level of care that best fits their pets and household. Shorter visits are great for quick feedings or potty breaks, while longer visits allow for more playtime, attention, and care for multiple pets.
How many visits should I schedule per day?
This depends on your pet’s routine. Most dogs typically require 2–3 visits per day, while cats may only require 1–2 visits daily depending on their needs. We’re happy to help recommend a schedule that works best for your pet.
What happens if my pet has an emergency while I’m away?
Your pet’s safety is our top priority. In the unlikely event of an emergency, we will immediately contact you or your emergency contact and, if necessary, take your pet to the nearest veterinary clinic for urgent care. As a retired and practicing veterinary technician team, we’re trained to handle a wide range of medical situations and provide first aid while ensuring your pet gets the care they need.
Are walks included with check-ins?
Check-ins are primarily focused on in-home care such as feeding, fresh water, medication administration, litter box maintenance, and general companionship. However, brief potty walks and outdoor time are included during the visit depending on the length of the check-in. If your dog requires a full dedicated walk, we recommend scheduling a dog walking service in addition to a check-in, as those visits are specifically designed for exercise and enrichment.
Can you administer medications during a check-in?
Yes. With our veterinary background, we are experienced with many types of medication administration. Please provide clear instructions and discuss your pet’s needs during the meet-and-greet.
Can you care for multiple pets in one household?
Absolutely. We regularly care for households with multiple pets, including combinations of dogs, cats, and other small animals. Because pet parents usually tend to book several pet sitting check-ins per day, we do not charge an additional fee for multiple pets in the household.
Are meet-and-greets required before booking check-ins?
Yes. All new clients must schedule a complimentary meet-and-greet before services can begin. This allows us to meet your pets, review their routine, and ensure we have everything needed to provide proper care.
What should I prepare before my scheduled visit?
We ask that food, medications, leashes, litter supplies, and other necessary items be clearly accessible before the visit. Having supplies ready helps us spend more time caring for your pets instead of searching for items around the home. We will also ask for written instructions for feeding schedules, medication times, and emergency contacts/preferred veterinarians to help ensure your pet receives the best possible care.
Do I need to pay a deposit for check-ins?
No deposit is required for standard check-ins. Payment can be made at the time of service or weekly for recurring visits, depending on your preference. Because check-ins are shorter visits, this helps keep the booking process simple and flexible for both you and your pet. For larger bookings scheduled far in advance, we may discuss a deposit on a case-by-case basis to secure your dates.
Will I receive updates during check-ins?
Yes! We know how important it is to stay connected with your pets while you’re away. During check-ins, we send detailed updates and pictures/videos via text, email, or your preferred method to let you know how your pet is doing, including potty breaks, meals, and any fun moments or observations.
Overnight Care
Evening Overnight
Our evening overnight service is perfect for pets who feel most comfortable having someone stay with them through the night. We arrive in the evening to provide dinner, potty breaks, playtime, and plenty of companionship before settling in for the night. In the morning, we’ll take care of breakfast, another potty break, and make sure your pet is comfortable before leaving for the day. This option is ideal for pets who do well on their own during the daytime but benefit from overnight supervision and routine care.
Full 24-Hour Overnight
Our full 24-hour overnight service provides extended, in-home care for pets who need more consistent companionship and supervision. During this stay, we remain with your pet for the majority of the day and night, maintaining their normal routine as closely as possible. This includes feedings, potty breaks, walks if requested, medication administration if needed, playtime, and plenty of attention and comfort throughout the day. This option is perfect for pets who experience separation anxiety, require more frequent care, or simply thrive with someone nearby.

Frequently asked questions about Overnights🐾
Here are some of the most common questions we receive about our overnight services. If there’s anything else you’d like to know, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
What’s the difference between an evening overnight and a full 24-hour overnight?
An evening overnight includes care during the evening and nighttime hours. We arrive in the evening to provide dinner, walks, potty breaks, playtime, medication administration if needed, and companionship, stay overnight with your pet, and handle breakfast and a morning potty break before leaving. A full 24-hour overnight provides extended care throughout the day and night, allowing us to remain with your pet for most of the day while maintaining their normal routine as closely as possible.
Do you stay in our home overnight?
Yes, overnight care takes place in your home so your pet can remain comfortable in their familiar environment. Staying in your pet’s home helps reduce stress and keeps their routine consistent while you’re away.
Are meet-and-greets required before overnight bookings?
Yes! All new clients are required to schedule a complimentary meet-and-greet before overnight services can be confirmed. This allows us to meet your pet, learn their routine, review any medical needs, and ensure everyone feels comfortable before the stay begins.
How many pets are included in an overnight stay?
Overnight services cover care for all of the pets in your home. Because pet parents usually tend to book overnight care over an extended period of time, we do not charge an additional fee for multiple pets in the household.
Will I receive updates during overnight stays?
Yes! We understand how important it is to stay connected with your pets while you’re away. During overnight care, we provide detailed updates via text, email, or your preferred method to let you know how your pet is doing, including meals, potty breaks, playtime, and any special notes about their behavior or comfort.
Can you administer medications during an overnight stay?
Yes. With our veterinary background, we are experienced in administering all types of medications and providing basic medical care. Please discuss your pet’s needs during the meet-and-greet so we can make sure we are the right fit!
What should I prepare before an overnight visit?
We ask that food, medications, leashes, and other necessary supplies be clearly accessible before the visit. Providing written instructions for feeding schedules, medication times, and emergency contacts/preferred veterinarians helps ensure your pet receives the best possible care.
Will my pet still get walks during an overnight stay?
Yes, dogs will receive potty breaks and routine outdoor time, which include full walks based on your pup's daily schedule. There is no additional charge for the full-serviced walks as it's included with both overnight packages.
How far in advance should I book overnight care?
Overnight stays tend to book quickly, especially during holidays and peak travel seasons. We recommend booking as early as possible to secure your preferred dates, as we book up quickly.
Do I need to pay a deposit to reserve overnight dates?
Yes. To officially reserve overnight care dates, we require a non-refundable 50% deposit at the time of booking. Because overnight services block off our schedule and often prevent us from accepting other requests, this deposit ensures your dates are secured. The remaining balance is due 24 hours before the service. If plans change, we understand that life happens, but the deposit is generally non-refundable due to the reserved time.
What happens if my pet has an emergency during an overnight stay?
Your pet’s safety is our top priority. In the unlikely event of an emergency, we will immediately contact you or your emergency contact and, if necessary, take your pet to the nearest veterinary clinic for urgent care. As a retired and practicing veterinary technician team, we’re trained to handle a wide range of medical situations and provide first aid while ensuring your pet gets the care they need.

Deposit Policy
To reserve overnight services with Bark & Broom Pet Care, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking. These bookings reserve dedicated time in our schedule and often prevent us from accepting other requests.
Your reservation is not considered officially booked until the deposit has been received and the booking has been approved. The remaining balance is due 24 hours before the service.
While deposits are generally non-refundable, we understand that emergencies can happen and may review special circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
Cancellation Policy
We understand that plans can change, and we do our best to remain flexible while also maintaining a reliable schedule for all of our clients.
We kindly ask clients to please notify us with at least 72 hours’ notice for cancellations for both overnights and pet sitting check-ins if possible. These services require schedule blocks that are often reserved well in advance.
Overnight Clients: Deposits are non-refundable, even if the service is cancelled.
Pet Sitting Check-In Clients: If a cancellation occurs outside of the required notice period, any future check-ins will require a non-refundable deposit.
We always strive to be understanding when unexpected situations arise and will work with clients whenever possible.
Behavior Policy
The safety and well-being of both your pet and our team is our top priority. We reserve the right to decline overnight or pet sitting service requests if a dog displays aggressive behavior or is extremely difficult to handle on the leash during a meet-and-greet.
This policy ensures that all pets receive safe, stress-free care and that our team can provide attentive, professional service without risk of injury. If a dog is deemed unsafe for walks and general care, we will discuss alternative options, such as one-on-one training recommendations.
Please understand that this policy is in place because we are not professional trainers and are not equipped to manage severe behavioral issues safely. This ensures that all pets receive stress-free, attentive care and that our team can provide services without risk of injury.
Meet-and-Greet Policy
At Bark & Broom Pet Care, we require a complimentary meet-and-greet for all new clients before services begin. This visit allows us to get to know you and your pet, review your pet’s routine, discuss any medical needs or behavioral considerations, and ensure that everyone feels comfortable moving forward.
Meet-and-greets typically last about 20–30 minutes and take place in your home so we can see where supplies such as leashes, food, medications, and other essentials are kept. This also gives your pet a chance to become familiar with us in their own environment and also gives us a chance to assess how your pup does on walks with someone other than their parent.
While meet-and-greets are complimentary, they are an important step in providing safe and reliable care. For this reason, we ask that clients are prepared to discuss their pet’s routine and expectations for the requested services. Services may not be confirmed until the meet-and-greet has been completed and approved.
If additional meet-and-greets are requested after the initial visit, they may be subject to a small service fee.
Client Responsibility
Clients are responsible for providing safe and reliable access to the home (key, lockbox, or entry instructions).
For overnight services, we are responsible for bringing our own supplies, items, and food into your home so there is no additional cost to you as a homeowner. However, clients are responsible for providing a place to sleep, such as a guestroom or an area in the house with sleeping arrangements.
For all pet sitting services, all pet items, including food, treats, leashes, harnesses, preferred cleaning products, comfort items, or medications, must be laid out to be ready for use before your departure. Clients should also provide detailed care instructions to ensure consistency and accuracy of care.
